we cannot calculate what we have lost
as other species tumble into death
the Ash tree standing through the windy frost
no longer lives to take and give us breath
we watch in horror, tethered to the tides
pulled to and fro against the current’s sway
we listen and our ageless faith abides
though challenged by the news of day to day
denial cannot change the truth or strife
the future caught in tangled threads of time
connected by the sacred web of life
we fall and stumble over the sublime
and still we fear and still we laugh at danger .. fools, we are
we dream of peace and wish upon a star
True, sad but true.
